Even though the Eiffel Tower was initially built as a temporary installation, it has become one of the most enduring symbols of France. Now, it certainly is one of the most recognizable monuments in the world. At a height of 324 meters, it is the tallest structure in Paris. It is possible to climb to the top of the tower, but there are 1,665 steps. So unsurprisingly, most people take the lift!

The enchanting beauty of the tower attracts visitors from all over the world. It should come as no surprise that the Eiffel Tower is the most visited paid tourist attraction in the world. In 2011, 6.98 million people visited the tower.
The tower was named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower. This structure was the tallest building in the world when it was completed in 1889. It held this record for 40 years, until it was surpassed by the Chrysler Building in New York City.
As a global landmark, the Eiffel Tower is featured in many films, video games, and television shows. In addition, many replicas and similar monuments of different sizes have been constructed around the world, such as Tokyo Tower or the Las Vegas Eiffel Tower.
